How will people find your web site? | |
How did you find this web site?
A performing arts organisation may promote its web site on printed flyers and brochures, submissions to search engines, adverts on the side of buses or announcements on usenet newsgroups. A classic car parts supplier might use adverts in specialist magazines or sponsorship of auto rallies. A membership organisation would use its own mailing list and listings in directories. Putting a link in your own e-mail signature is a powerful free tool which is often overlooked. The decision on the name of your web site (domain name) is perhaps the most important one you will make. It needs to be recognisable, descriptive and informative. Initials may not be instantly understood. Think about these web site names, which to me are self explanatory. If you click on the links you will be taken away from this site - just use the back button on your browser to return here. and these which are rather less so: Domain names now cost very little, so you should be able to get something which will suit your needs. Remember that you need an domain name that is easy to remember and that will mean something to your target audience. Here is a guide to Marketing the Arts on the Internet revised in February, 2002. The same principles apply, whether your organisation is arts based or not. |
